#1 - First Steps
24/08/20
Well… what a strange few days it’s been.
Having danced around the idea of working independently for a long time, last week I finally took the plunge into the world of freelancing. This was not a decision I’ve been keen to make over the past few weeks, but it’s one that is very exciting right now – especially during these strange and uncertain times.
Whilst it is terrifying knowing you have to do so much for yourself, I can’t help thinking about the best and worst scenarios all of the time. How many clients could be too many? Am I going to be busy constantly? Maybe I won’t get any clients at all? HELP!
Yep, I know these sound ridiculous so early on, but whilst these thoughts run around in my head day-to-day (as I’m sure they do for many people who have taken these steps), they make me really excited about what I’m doing with ContentSolved. In fact, since I decided to take these proverbial ‘first steps’, I have been writing constantly!
If I’m not scribbling thoughts down on tattered pieces of scrap paper, I’m typing up poetry and short-fiction on my computer.
But apart from the random writing that keeps me preoccupied for much of the day, I’ve managed to break down my goals for the next month into three major objectives:
-
Structure time and availability around other commitments
-
Finalize client documents for consultations and conversations
-
Get the word out and begin to build connections!
As much as I enjoy making fancy documents for you all to read, step 3 has to be my favourite. Not only is it something that lets me chat to friends and connections about my new business venture, but the experience of networking with something I am so passionate about is nothing short of overwhelming.
I suppose it sounds like a lot when I write this down – especially when I take a look at the calendar and see how the days are flying past – but when I break it down for myself so simply, I know that it’s achievable.
Ultimately, as I chat to my girlfriend, friends and family about what I’m doing, their excitement for me is more than enough to help me keep going!
Thank you for all your support throughout this so far! If you or anyone you know needs professional content writing for any brand or idea, I’ll do whatever I can to help!
For now though, I’m just happy the groundwork is in place! 😊
